Manilow, Barry/Sore Throats

After His Concerts Did Barry wind Up with Sore Throats & If He Did How did He Take Care of it

Hello, Jodi!

Thank you for contacting me through All Experts.  Now I will answer your question about Barry having sore throats, and how he took care of it.  Of course, sore throats are very common for singers, especially when they are  touring or headlining in Vegas and doing a lot of singing.  First of all, a singer needs to make sure to drink fluids regularly to keep the vocal cords hydrated so his or her throat does not get dry or scratchy.  Vocal rest is another thing that singers can do when they are touring or headlining in Vegas meaning they speak very little during the day (or write messages) in effort to preserve their voice for the concert.  Also, drinking tea with honey and lemon helps soothe a sore throat, too. Honey also has anti-inflammatory properties, and it is a natural antimicrobial, which means it has the ability to kill different infection causing organisms including bacteria and fungi.    Last but not least, there are voice specialist doctors called a laryngologist who specialize in the care of the professional voice.  These are ear, nose and throat doctors with additional training to care for the professional voice.  In fact, Barry has mentioned that he is treated by Dr. Scott Kessler, M.D., who is known as the voice doctor to the stars.  Below you will find an interesting article about the medicinal uses of honey.  There is also a link to an article about Dr. Kessler, and you will notice Barry's name is mentioned as one of his patients.

Thank you for contacting me through All Experts, and I hope the information I have provided is helpful.
