I was a regular at the Continental before Steve started his shows.
I remember Bette and Barry performing there but not Manilow by himself, but Seve Ostrow writes in his book that Mr. Manilow once performed by himself.

Barry did a solo appearence at the Conintental Baths on June 2, 1973 as a Bell Records showcase. The audio of "I Am Your Child" was issued on the box set from this performance.

I have been a fan of Barry's just a little longer, about 35 years - I started very young! If you read his book "Sweet Life", he mentions that he booked the Continental Baths for a very early solo performance while Bette took a year off. I think he continued to be her music director and did his a couple of his own songs between her sets.

Here is the truth. I am a friend of Steve Ostrow, who ran the Continental Baths, and it's a fact that Barry accompanied Bette on the piano regularly. At the time Barry was a musician whose claim to fame was writing musical jingles for commercials. Bette, up to that time, was performing at the Impov comedy club in Manhattan. Steve Ostrow hired Bette first, then Barry to accompany her. At least on one occasion, Barry accompanied Bette wearing only a towel. The facts ban be read in "Live at the Continental", the story of the Continental Baths, written by Steve Ostrow, Owner.
