Question
Why do the windows on a ships bridge slope forwards?

Answer
Hi Alan,

I suppose it is to give a better view. On the bridge, the officers have to see what is going on around them so that the ship will not collide with something on the sea. They will also need to know what is happening to the deck of the ship and the cargo hatches, etc., whether water is accumulating on the decks, any fire or situations (pirates?).

Looking at the sky is of no importance unless there is an overhead structure they have to cross, but then, the window is big enough to let them see that too. If need to, they can just walk a few steps towards the wings of the bridge and they are in open environment where they can see all around, top, bottom, sides, front, back, and enjoy the open sea air.

It's not a rule but a design that should make better sense.

Rgds
