Question
Hi my name is John.  I am starting out a small business involving webdesign.  I was wondering if you could share with me some advice on how to build a customer base for someone who is starting out in the business.  Is it true that "word of mouth" is the best method of advertising?

Thank You,

John

Answer
Hi John,
There are a number of ways to build your clientel. The most important thing to remeber is that you are building connections with people. You want to provide value, solutions, and be known as a credable, reliable, person to work with and refer other people to.
A clear website which attracts the perfect clients for you will be a good start. Having testimonials from satisfied customers will help to build trust. Writing articles to give value to the reader build credability and name recognition plus generate better link ranking will be very helpful too.
Asking satisfied customers to referr other clients to you and then making it very easy for them to do it is also very effective. Teaching a teleclass about a certain focus that relates to your business and expertise is a very god way to connect with cleints. Most important to remeber when you do this is that you are not selling anything. You are building relationships being of service and giving value. What you will attract is perfect cleints and a thriving business.
