I wanted to lookat a topic linked to my course, im having great difficulty
doing this,i have never drafted a research propsal, we have been asked to do

Answer Pearl,I assume that you are in a market research class. Topics for research could be something like: what are the demographic charactertistics of the customers (that buy yor product)? OR How do customers rate your product vs. others on: safety, efficiency, price (or any other variable).
Draft your proposal with a background, methods, and analysis section that lays out the question you are undertaking, how you will do the research (e.g. online survey of 100 customers), and how you will analyze the results.
