Question
1.  What is the role of hypothesis in making a research design?  

Answer
The hypothesis is the tentative idea or theory that the research is designed to test.  For example, the hypothesis is that Product X is more appealing to women than to men.  The research to test the hypothesis would involved having an equal sample of women and men rate the appeal of Product X.
