Question
QUESTION: Within the next 2-3 weeks I will be launching my new website business that comes with a difference to what we currently offer on the web today. My question is what is the best way to start marketing my website service and approach companies and businesses to show them what I have got to offer, plus it is also for the general public.

I am British and currently I live in England.

ANSWER: Adam,

Congratulations on taking the plunge!

Typically, with any product or service, you should first think of your target audience and then craft your marketing messages to their needs and wants.  Your marketing is something that should be nailed down before you launch the product or service.

Before I can answer this question in more detail, I need to know:

1. Did you do any marketing research before you started your new website business?

2.  Who is your target audience?  Who are you trying to serve?

3.  What specifically is your website business?

4. On your old website, did you track web traffic statistics such as number of visits, time spent on the site, popular search phrases, etc.?

5. What is the purpose of your site (e.g., e-commerce, information, entertainment, etc.)?

Adam, I'll be able to answer your question far more effectively if you can answer those questions.

Thanks,

Alex

QUESTION: 1. Did you do any marketing research before you started your new website business?

Yes I have done alot of research but haven't yet chosen my options.

2.  Who is your target audience?  Who are you trying to serve?

My target audience are the general public for looking for work and also any company that wants to advertise or require to fill a job placement.

3.  What specifically is your website business?
A new type of job website for users and businesses but with a big difference to others out in the www.

4. On your old website, did you track web traffic statistics such as number of visits, time spent on the site, popular search phrases, etc.?

I didn't have an old website this is the first that has been professionally done.

5. What is the purpose of your site (e.g., e-commerce, information, entertainment, etc.)?

Information and application for both the user and company.

Answer
Adam,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

The first thing to do is identify what makes your job site unique from Monster, CareerBuilder, etc.  Use those differences to shape your marketing and advertising messages to the prospective employers.  Also, find out the promotional media your target market typically reads.  Use those media to communicate your messages to the target market.

Keep in mind that your webster will likely attract job seekers of a certain variety (perhaps a disproportionate share of financial services workers, health care workers, etc.).  See the types of professionals who come to your site.  You may need to tailor your message even more to reach these different clusters of occupations.
