Marketing Research - market research plan

Expert: Alex J. Caffarini - 6/18/2009

Question
Hi alex, How can i propose a market research plan for an organization and a schedule for the study?
And what type of strategy can be recommended to the organization based on the study conducted?

Answer
Meena,

A good market research plan starts with a definition of the problem.  Sit down with those in the organization who have a stake in the research findings.  Find out what marketing issues are concerning them.  Determine what problems they want the research to solve, and/or what opportunities they want the research to help them exploit.

When you have defined the problem, then you will know what information they need to solve the problem.  When you know what information they need, you will have a good idea of the research methods best suited to extracting that information.

Once you know the methods you'll use, break everything down into steps with estimates for how long each step will take.  Put each step in logical sequential order, and on the final deliverable, set a deadline, and "work back" from that deadline, so that you know when each step must be done.

To your last question, the type of strategy you recommend is based on the study conducted.  Your recommendations are based on whatever flows logically from your study's results.
