Subject: Price increase

Question
i am working as a brand manager in a confectionary distributer in UAE. I want to know the supplier is going to increase the price of chewing gum to double .what would be the impact on market and sales ? how can we manage the situtations? what is the risk factors involved in it?

Answer
I think that the effect of them increasing their prices depend on a number of things:  how many customers actually pay attention to the price of their gum (assuming that it's purchased along with a number of other products at the same time).    I also wonder if they are differentiating their products in some way (stronger flavor, longer lasting flavor, attractive packaging (like Starbucks is currently doing) or even if they're more conveniently packaged in some way.

I hope that helps.
Chris
