Massage - Blood Count and massage

Expert: Rachel Beider, LMT - 10/1/2009

Question
Since 2007 my bloodcount have dropped considerably; bloodplatelets=67/white blood=3.1/red blood=10.2

I've been to my doctor, specialist and they have been examined me, give me prednison for 8 weeks, but it seems that they don't know what's causing the dropping of my bloodcount. As I've pain in my spine and muscles, i wonder if toxins is the malefactor that is causing all this and which massage is the best for my situation?

My both ears are whistling since 2007. Has this to do with the drop of the bloodcount?

Regards,

Evie

Answer
Hi Evie,

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. It's unlikely that a buildup of toxins in the muscles is causing your health concerns - more likely is that the pain you're experiencing is a side effect or complicates your current medical situation. Predisone is an immunosuppressant, and one of it's side effects is joint pain, which may explain that component of your illness.

Unfortunately, circulatory massage, such as Swedish, or Deep Tissue, may not be appropriate for you in this situation. Try a modality such as Polarity Therapy, Reiki, or gentle Shiatsu to help you relax and reduce your anxiety. In the meantime, the question of your blood count is best directed towards a medical professional.

Let me know if you have any further questions, and I hope you've found this helpful.

Warmly,

Rachel Beider, LMT, Doula
