Hi Zira,

I am considering massage therapy as a new career.  However, I have a concern.  I am a person who has small body frame.  Just wondering if I am physically strong enough to become a massage therapist.  In fact, when I had a chance to attend a basic massage class, all fellow classmates whom I gave massage said "you can give me more pressure".  Do you think small person like myself can satisfy clients if I work hard?  Thank you in advance for your time.

Hi Tamara,

Just because you are small doesn't mean you can't apply pressure. If you have problems with your wrists then deep tissue may be not an option. A lot of being a massage therapist is taking care of yourself. As a therapist i work out everyday and that includes lifting weights and stretching. You have to really take care of yourself in this profession or after 5 years you're done. Give it a try and remember if you don't like it then you can always drop out of school. As i said I don't see any reason why you can't do this. Good luck!

I'm a registered massage therapist and have been for a few years now, I'm also an active athlete and know how to tie health and massage together. I have training in relaxation massage, remedial massage, pre and post event sports massage, problems in the lower legs of athletes, some thai massage, soft tissue manipulation, a small amount of pregnancy massage, exercise rehab and kinesiology, anything about the human body and how it operates, and I even have a small background in myofascial release. Currently I am in the process of becoming a certified personal trainer as well.
