Massage - craniosacral for recovering from hernia surgery
Question A friend of mine recently had surgery for inguinal hernia. I have been certified in the first level of craniosacral therapy, but I am still working on my 1,000 practice bodies. I would like to work on him, but I would like to have a better understanding of his needs before I give him a session. Any info concerning what his body is going through and how CST fits in would be greatly appreciated!
Answer Hi Sarah
With any surgery especially recent we are to consider what type of fascia trauma has occurred. First is the hernia itself two types of inguinal hernias direct/indirect. In either case we have a tear, strain and I'm assuming surgery was needed because the hernia was incarcerated. Second is the surgery, although necessary it is invasive to the body as well.
If it were my client and the surgery was less than 30 days I would refrain from fascia release in the associated regions of the hernia. I would however release fascia from thoracic inlet/hyoid and atlantis/occiput. I would perform CV4 still point and complete the 10 step protocol from the Cranium only.
Nutrition plays it's part as well by suggesting Omega 3 oil as a supplement to his healing process. And even visiting a nutritionist to suggest other supplements to aid in the healing process.
First 30 to 60 days, focus on minimizing scar tissue by gentle stretching and proper nutrition/infra red heat therapy.
60 to 90 days receive treatments massage/cranio sacral/reiki
90 days and beyond, Slow core strengthening Yoga, treatments massage/cranio sacral/reiki as needed.
