Massage - massage therapy licence

Expert: John Nickolas Barakitis - 8/5/2009

Question
Dear John,
I graduated massage school 2 years ago, but never apply to get the license yet. Somebody told me that after 2 years-it's too late, I have to go to school all over again. Said it's some kind of new law..Is that true?

Also I would like to know your opinion becoming physical therapist versus massage therapist?
I appreciate your help in finding myself..

Thanks in advance

Ella

Florida

Answer
Hi Ella

I just spoke with the director of admissions here in NH who also files for Florida. She never heard of such a claim. Your only requirement is to pass the NCBTMB(National Exam), then submit your school transcripts and application to the state.

I thought of becoming a PT, I decided on Massage Therapy because it offers more flexibility in modalities. One client I can do relaxation, another Reiki, another deep tissue. I work on my own and sub contract to local spas. It is diverse and rewarding.

PT work greatly involves the medical industry, if you are thick skinned enough and can deal with that type of business model and its staff's hierarchal nature it can be rewarding as well.

Most important listen to your heart and you will be guided to what flows the easiest for you.

To your success

John Nickolas Barakitis
