Question
hi. my wife is 39+2 weeks pregnant with our 2nd child she was told by her midwife that she is 1/5 engaged. is this a sign she will give birth soon? will we have to wait much longer as we are definatley both ready

Answer
I'm sure you are ready at this point.  This just means that the baby is still up a bit - and needs to come on down to be born.  How long will this take?  Well it really depends.  Some babies will stay there for days - while other can go from that to crowning in a manner of minutes.  It's hard to tell.

Normally with the 2nd baby they come sooner (supposedly) and the birth is faster.  This isn't set in stone.

But there are things you can do to help bring on labor:

Walking
Sex
Walking
Sex

(Kind of a broken record there - but really those 2 things are the best "physical" things she can do to help nature along)
