Math for Kids - math question

Expert: Anil - 10/27/2009

Question
the length of a rectangle is L.  The width is one more than 3 times the length.  Find the area of the rectangle in terms of L________.

Answer
Hi Kristie,

Area of a rectangle = Length X Width

In this case,
Length = L
3 times the Length is = 3 X L = 3L
One more than 3 times the Length is = 3L + 1
Width = One more than 3 times the Length = 3L + 1

Area = L X (3L + 1) = 3L^2 + L

Have fun with your mathematics
