Expert: joshua thorndyke Date: 1/2/2008 Subject: tribute compression loss
Question my 02 v6 has had the 100k service and had 1 coil replaced to rectify an intermittent miss under load,2000k later the two outer cylinders on the front bank have zero and 75 lb compression, all others are 175.i have removed the head expecting to see burnt valves but it looks ok apart from some valve recetion,is this enough to cause problems like causing valves to ride?local mazda dealer is useless, there solution was to replace the new plugs again and flog the crap out of it until they melted the cat then charge me to tow it back to the shop, charge $1200-and i ended up towing it home on a trailer in pieces.any ideas? ray
Answer i don't see the recetion being a problem are the plugs having anything to do with compression loss when you did a compreesion test did you do a wet and dry compression test to see were the problem maybe normally if your compression goes up after adding some oil to the combustion camber it's bottom end and more then likely your rings and if it stays the same it's normally top end. i hope that was of some help if i can help anymore please then me know.
take note -- that if you didn't sign and release a work order for the work they did your NOT OBLIGATED by law to pay for it. IN SOME STATES check before you refuse to pay the bill good luck
