Mechanical Engineering - Center of Gravity

Expert: Masoud Fakhrabadi - 12/30/2007

Question
How to locate Center of Gravity of machines(e.g. lathe)?
Is there any practical method for it?

Answer
Dear asp,
there are several ways to find it.
if you are a member of a large company that has heavy machines for lifting you can find the center of gravity by lifting it a little above ground.
lift from one point and when it hangs draw a line perpendicular to ground and do it for other point.
the intraction point of these two lines is center of gravity.
Or if you are able to analyze with softwares like ansys you can get help from this to find it.
regards,
M.Fakhrabadi
