Medical College of Georgia - Accelerated Programs?

Expert: J.P. Saleeby, MD - 10/5/2006

Question
Hello, I just have a quick question about accelerated programs. I don't know if you know this or not but I'll still ask to be sure :)
I've heard that you
could apply for an accelerated college/medical school program, which
can compress those eight years of school into just six or seven years.
Is that a good idea? Is an accelerated program as "good" as the regular
one? Which program did you choose?
Thanks very much for your time,
Victoria S.

Answer
Victoria,

I am not aware of any in the USA.  However a maxillofacial surgeon friend of mine from Hamburg Germany did just the thing.. attended undergrad and Med school in 6 years instead of the 4 + 4 as in the US.  Some classes are duplicated like Biochem and Micro.. so I would imagine the more intense 6 years are equivalent to the 8.  But again I am no expert in this field.
