Medical College of Georgia - Spanish minor

Expert: J.P. Saleeby, MD - 9/29/2005

Question
Hello, I was wondering if getting a spanish minor would increase the chances of me getting into medical school. I am a freshman so far, and I have some interest in it. I am not far from getting a minor, so I was wondering if it is beneficial. Also does it look good if I study abroad in Costa Rica?

Thanks so much

Answer
Mustafa,

Because our nation is trending toward bi-linguality, any physician speaking Spanish has an advantage.  Not sure if it will get you into Medical School any better, but if you are planning to practice in Southern CA, Texas or Florida in residency then it is almost a prereq. .
