Question
Hi, first of all thank you for your time. I live in Georgia and am thinking about applying to MCG. Here is my question. I graduated from GC&SU with a low GPA (2.8), I'm currently a grad student there and I will be graduating with a GPA of 3.7. Plus I have 2 years of research experience in microbiology. What are my chances of getting accepted into MCG med program if I have a good MCAT score? Does my low undergrad GPA play a role in my admissions.

Answer
Christen,

Applications to med schools are up from when I applied and thus the selection process is more demanding.  When I applied your chances were not good unless you had a 3.6 or better undergrad GPA.  If you applied with less you had to have stellar MCAT scores.  They fact that you are in grad school with a 3.7 GPA will certainly help.  You may want to retake the MCAT to do better.  Also a good interview will help.  Good luck... oh and don't be discouraged if you don't get in the first year.  Many good med students applied 2 or even 3 times before getting in.
