Medical College of Georgia - med school

Expert: J.P. Saleeby, MD - 10/24/2002

Question
I live in Powder Springs outside of Atlanta. I am preparing to take my med school basic requirements (i.e. Chem, Biology). I have taken 60 semester hours of college in Tennessee but not those classes. I was wondering if I take them close by at Kennesaw State Univ. that it would affect my med school admission negatively as long as I did well on them? Or should I try and take them at Emory where I will be applying to? Thanks for your help.

Answer
Z,

To be honest it matters more what you score on the class (A versus a C) than where you actually take them.  So an A from Kennesaw State is better than a C from Harvard!  To get into med school you will need a GREAT score on the MCAT, a good GPA and a good Interview... it really does not play into the formula where you graduated.  Unless it is from a foreign school (Mexico City U. for example)

Best,
