Medical Malpractice - dilated cardiomyopathy

Expert: Jack Schroder - 6/7/2009

Question
Two years ago i was diagnosed and treated for a chest infection which was later diagnosed as congestive heart failure. I was sent home by 3 different doctors 4 times over a period of 11 days of which by the time i was admitted to hospital i was very severely ill and near death. I was in hospital for 2 months and was assessed for a heart transplant. now i have cardiomyopathy and a damaged heart. My case is complicated and a heart specialist has said my outcome would have been the same if i had been admitted to hospital earlier. I strongly disagree due to massive fluid overload and lack of oxygen for 11 days. Please could you advise me on hope for this case, as I was very traumatised on being so very ill for a long time.

Answer
Medical malpractice occurs in England just as it does here in the US.
It sounds as if you do have a legitimate reason to ask for help from a malpractice lawyer.

I know nothing about the laws in England, but I am sure if you talk to some lawyers they will be able to guide you. You do not give too much information in your question here. When you do talk to lawyers have dates and when possible names of doctors involved. Your case may be complicated, but it does not sound impossible to me.

Most of the complications arise from what may have been too many doctors, and possibly some afraid to counter opinions of other doctors. But whatever the cause of their delay in finding the correct diagnosis, they did miss it.

Good luck.  Get started looking for a lawyer.
