Medical Malpractice - hernia complications

Question
my husband had a heria operation- which was not healing- pain got worse- not better- after the surgery and several weeks of complications- the surgoen finnally told me- he had to cut 2 nerves in his groin area- and it was normal procedure- although he had never discussed this with us--so we went to a large city- st thomas hospital- and saw a specialist who has told us- that only in certian instances do drs cut those nerves and that this was probably done in error -by mistake-- and that the dr should just be up front with us and work on correcting the pain and problems that come along with it rather then trying to act as though this was normal-- can you please advise me- i am in much pain- loss of manhood- and have worked for the state for 12 years and now unable to work-- i want to get better and back to work. thank---(hubby took over)

Answer
I can only attempt a very general answer because I don't know what nerves you are referring to and what the medical facts are. How can I say the surgeon did something wrong or negligently? Even the doctor at the second hospital said such nerves may need to be cut in certain circumstances. Maybe this was one iof them. Also, when the issue comes up about cutting nerves, that is usually done to eliminate pain and does not usually lead to an increase. Bottom line, your wish to "get better and back to work" won't be accomplished by an attorney obviously. Maybe a good surgeon can achieve that for you. I hope so. I guess you were too shy to mention the words "medical malpractice" which is the only reason you would be writing a lawyer. Bottom line to that: You need a medical expert to study your case history and come to the conclusion that serious errors were made at the surgery that were the direct cause of longstanding and very serious disabilities that would not have occured if the surgery was done according to the book. I don't know if you have that or not. For your sake, I hope you don't. Good luck.
