About Trisha Torrey, Every Patient's Advocate
Expertise
When you want to learn more about your diagnosis, medical tests, prescription drugs, talking to your doctor, or just want to find credible and reliable health or medical information on the internet, I can help steer you in the right direction. I'm not a doctor, nor a medical professional. I'm a patient safety, consumerism and advocacy specialist who believes patients do themselves a favor by finding reliable information on the internet, then sharing it with their health care providers.

Experience
I am a consultant in patient advocacy and consumerism. I'm a newspaper columnist, radio talk show host, seminar leader, and owner of two websites to help those who want to learn more about their diseases or conditions: diagKNOWsis.org and EveryPatientsAdvocate.com

Organizations

Publications
EveryPatientsAdvocate.com, syracuse.com (Syracuse Post Standard -- daily newspaper)

Education/Credentials
Bachelors and Masters degrees in education. Marketing consultant for 25 years. This work, however, stems from a misdiagnosis I suffered in 2004 when I was told I had a rare cancer. I was able to do the necessary research to prove I had no cancer at all.

Question
What is meclizine? I was feeling dizzy and my doctor prescribed meclizine. Is it?
1)Meclizine is an antiviral drug. Viruses, such as those causing the common "cold" or "flu," can attack the inner ear and its nerve connections to the brain. Meclizine will eliminate the root cause of your dizziness by killing the virus that is affecting your inner ear.

2)Meclizine is a beta-blocker, which makes the heart beat slower so that blood passes through your blood vessels with less force. Your doctor must feel your dizziness is related to your blood pressure.

3)Meclizine is used for the treatment of nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion sickness. Meclizine is also possibly effective in the treatment of vertigo related to diseases of the body's balance system.

4)Meclizine is a vasodilater, it helps your blood vessels dilate, thus allowing more room for blood flow. By improving your blood circulation your doctor hopes to alleviate your dizziness

Answer
Carlo,

In fact, it looks like you have already found good descriptions of meclizine.  It's a drug that's been around for quite awhile, meaning, the side effects and any problems associated with using it are well documented.

Learn more here:  http://drugsaz.about.com/od/drugs/meclizine.htm

Be sure to click those tabs above the explanation to learn about side effects, etc.

I hope it helps your dizziness.  That must be difficult to live with.
