Subject: pulmonary emboli

Question
two years ago i got emboli i have clots in my arteries and lungs three weeks ago i was told that i had a heart attack i didnt even know when and how my artries in legs are hardening i am on warfrin.Do the clots ever desolve, and what other advice can you give.

Answer
Hello Ashwin,

Warfarin is an anti-coagulant and is intended to stop existing clots from getting bigger and to prevent new clots from forming. Existing clots are  expected to be gradually dissolved by the body over a period of time.

If this does not happen, and one continues to develop clots, then doctors may discuss implanting a vein filter, in an attempt to prevent the clot from reaching the pulmonary artery.  However, in your case, you say that you have already got pulmonary emboli as well as a heart attack.

Thrombolytic therapy or medication for dissolving the existing clot is generally only recommended in life-threatening situations, because of the associated risks.  Other rarely used options include using a catheter for removing the clot, or surgery.

You should discuss your condition and these options with your doctor.  Please visit the following links for more information:

I suggest you consult a homeopathic doctor as well, as homeopathy is known to have shown results in this condition.  However, ensure that your allopathic doctor is kept informed.  Also discuss diet and other restrictions with your allopathic doctor, as  many items such as garlic and vitamin  K containing foods may interact with the warfarin.
