Subject: relief from ascites-distended abdomen

Question
Hi
My husband was diagnosed with fatty liver and early onset cirrhossis.
He has been advised todrastically reduce alcohol and fats, eat healthier and exercise.
He has done this for over a year now,has lost weight, and his doctor says his liver has become smaller and the tests are better.
However, his  abdomen is still as prounced as ever and he has fluid in the abdominal cavity. When he over eats just a bit or has a couple beers he gets severe distension and cramping. The doctor says this is ascites, and the only thing that can be done is to take diuretics. He tried this but he is a trucker and didnt like having to pee all the time.
Do you know of,or can you recommend a place to look, that might have an alternative medicine/herb he can try?
Thinking it was a food allergy he  tried cutting out meats for a month, then dairy, then carbs-nothing worked.
I did a long google search google and all I could come up with was 'branched chain amino acids' in which is a bodybuilding supplement I believe.
Thanks for any help!

Answer
The most common complications of cirrhosis are ascites, hypoglycemia and encephalopathy (brain damage). Ascites can be controlled by these three only:
1.Abstaining from alcohol. (Sometimes abstaining from alcohol is enough to reverse this complication.)
2. Restricting salt.
3. Taking diuretics

An importnat thing is to give him good diet having fruits (not juices), fibre rich breakfast (oatmeal etc.) and excercise.

You can also try homeopathy for him together with stopping alcohol intake.
