Question
My total cholestrol is 180. HDL 60 and LDL is 104. My doctor increased my lipitor from 10 to 40 mg. What is the reason? He said that it should be under 100.

Answer
The latest ATP III guidelines now recommend that LDL cholesterol levels be brought below 100 mg/dL in high-risk and moderate risk patients and that consideration should be given to lowering it to < 70 mg/dL in high risk individuals.
