About Trisha Torrey, Every Patient's Advocate
Expertise
When you want to learn more about your diagnosis, medical tests, prescription drugs, talking to your doctor, or just want to find credible and reliable health or medical information on the internet, I can help steer you in the right direction. I'm not a doctor, nor a medical professional. I'm a patient safety, consumerism and advocacy specialist who believes patients do themselves a favor by finding reliable information on the internet, then sharing it with their health care providers.

Experience
I am a consultant in patient advocacy and consumerism. I'm a newspaper columnist, radio talk show host, seminar leader, and owner of two websites to help those who want to learn more about their diseases or conditions: diagKNOWsis.org and EveryPatientsAdvocate.com

Organizations

Publications
EveryPatientsAdvocate.com, syracuse.com (Syracuse Post Standard -- daily newspaper)

Publications
About.com's Guide to Patient Empowerment (http://patients.about.com) EveryPatientsAdvocate.com, syracuse.com (Syracuse Post Standard -- daily newspaper)

Education/Credentials
Bachelors and Masters degrees in education. Marketing consultant for 25 years. This work, however, stems from a misdiagnosis I suffered in 2004 when I was told I had a rare cancer. I was able to do the necessary research to prove I had no cancer at all.

Awards and Honors
Named CNN's Hero of Patient Empowerment, 2008

Medical Research on the Internet - Finger Pulse Oximeters

Expert: Trisha Torrey, Every Patient's Advocate - 3/27/2009

Question
Hi Trisha,

I would like to find out, & continue to monitor, my oxygen level.  However, I see oximeters from $48.00 up to $200.00.  I would like to be sure I get a reputable, dependable oximeter at a reasonable cost, not spending $200.00 if I really don't have to.  Can you offer any information or insight on this, or direct me to source of information and rating, in choosing an oximeter?

Thank you for any advice or help you may have to offer:)

Linda

Answer
Hi Linda,

There are several websites that allow people to rate various items for purchase.  Here's a link to ratings at Nextag:

http://www.nextag.com/pulse-oximeter/stores-html

And at Amazon:  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_hpc?url=search-alias%3Dhpc&field-keywords=oxim...

Probably best to use both those sites and find one that has good ratings at both sites.  The value of those ratings will have a lot to do with how many people have rated them.

Best of luck to you....

Trisha
