About Trisha Torrey, Every Patient's Advocate
Expertise
When you want to learn more about your diagnosis, medical tests, prescription drugs, talking to your doctor, or just want to find credible and reliable health or medical information on the internet, I can help steer you in the right direction. I'm not a doctor, nor a medical professional. I'm a patient safety, consumerism and advocacy specialist who believes patients do themselves a favor by finding reliable information on the internet, then sharing it with their health care providers.

Experience
I am a consultant in patient advocacy and consumerism. I'm a newspaper columnist, radio talk show host, seminar leader, and owner of two websites to help those who want to learn more about their diseases or conditions: diagKNOWsis.org and EveryPatientsAdvocate.com

Organizations

Publications
EveryPatientsAdvocate.com, syracuse.com (Syracuse Post Standard -- daily newspaper)

Publications
About.com's Guide to Patient Empowerment (http://patients.about.com) EveryPatientsAdvocate.com, syracuse.com (Syracuse Post Standard -- daily newspaper)

Education/Credentials
Bachelors and Masters degrees in education. Marketing consultant for 25 years. This work, however, stems from a misdiagnosis I suffered in 2004 when I was told I had a rare cancer. I was able to do the necessary research to prove I had no cancer at all.

Awards and Honors
Named CNN's Hero of Patient Empowerment, 2008

Question
"i would like to know if you could direct me to searches for the effects of menopause on Parkinson disease, if i can be specific then how does the loss of estrogen negatively impact Parkinson?  and does estrogen contain dopamine?"

Answer
Hi Sherry,

I was able to find some references to menopause, hormones and Parkinsons, but I'm not sure they answer your questions.  It looks from this first WebMd reference like that answer may not be available yet:

http://www.webmd.com/parkinsons-disease/news/20090225/hormones-may-play-a-role-i...

Here is a list of PubMed articles about menopause and Parkinsons.  Again, I'm not sure they answer your question:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=pubmed&cmd=Search&Term=parkinsons%20...

re: estrogen and dopamine

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain:  http://bpd.about.com/od/glossary/g/dopamine.htm

According to this article:  http://www.pdcaregiver.org/Estrogen.html  estrogen destroys dopamine.  I don't know much about this website (or its credibility) but it cites research from Yale which you could find for an original reference.

Hope this is helpful!
