Question Hi
My friend say's she is 10 weeks preganant, and she got pregnant on first day of getting back with her boyfriend. However she has done a ultrascan today and that shows she is 12 weeks pregnant. She say's there's been nobody else and she is 10 weeks pregnant. she say's the date the ultra scan is giving is the date her last period was. Can you please let me know if this is true and is possiable, can it be 2 weeks wrong??
Please help, as her boy friend is very close friend of mine and i do not want him to lied to.

Answer Hi julie, while unlikely, it may be possible. Ultrasound is usually more accurate for dating purposes when it is used earlier in the pregnanacy as opposed to later. It is most accurate for pregnancy dating during the first eighteen weeks of pregnancy. Depending on what is measured in the process of pregnancy dating, ultrasound may be prone to inaccuracy. Measurement of the sac for instance is inaccurate at five to seven weeks. The crown-rump length measurement may be out by about 3 days if done at seven weeks. Between the seventh and fourteenth weeks, this test may be used. Between the fourteenth and twenty-sixth weeks, various other measurements provide an accuracy level that can be out by seven to ten days. Pregnancy dating accuracy declines further when ultrasound is used later in a pregnancy. Hope this helps.
