Question
hello. i am a dietitian from india. i have a question regarding my father. i hope u would be kind enuf to answer as soon as possible. my father is 51 yrs of age. he is overwieght by 12 kgs. v have had cardiac incidence in our family as my grandfather passed away due to cardiorespiratory failure. i would like to know if, as a preventive measure, i should give my father 300-350ml red wine daily. i am not sure whether this consumption is advised for indian genetic make-up. could you please guide me if i should start with this red wine or not. as for more medical information, my dad is fit and healthy and suffers from no other ailments other than a mild case of heel pain (plantar fascitis). could you please tell me if i should start with red wine for him. thank you.

Answer
If someone is not already taking red wine, it is not advisable to start taking it since it has more harms than benefits. Your father should try to reduce weight by doing regular exercise, decreasing calorie intake and maintaining an active and stress-free lifestyle.
