Question
Hi,

I am doing research on Shingles for a class presentation.  I was reading in some of the articles that young people are also at risk of getting this disease.  I was wondering if you knew the statistical percent of a young person getting this disease? And if not, possibly where to find out?

Answer
The prevalence of shingles is constant between the ages of 20 to 50 years (2.5 cases per 1,000 persons per year). The chances of getting shingles then doubles in people between ages 50 and 60 years. Please visit http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12353183 and try to get full text of the article. Also, http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/s/shingles/prevalence.htm may be useful.
