Question as a project for my degree, I have to design a wearable camera for a paramedic, and I am trying to find out about scale of production(assuming there is one camera for each ambulance). I am also interested in suitably clean/safe materials, life span, other existing products that are similar, and any advise you may have on its design, that you consider relevant.
Answer You have asked several questions. I will try to answer all for which I am qualified.
1. Scale of Production - The volume required to put one in each ambulance would be very large demanding large scale production. Also, the cost pressure would be high as the budgets for equipment in most ambulances are controlled by local governments and the pressure would be high to provide an adequate cost/benefit justification.
2. As for the materials, as this is non patient contact - there are no medical requirements. Durability would be the major concern.
3. Life Span - See the cost benefit. Unless the cost was very low (almost disposable), they would be expected to be waranteed for at least a year.
4. Other Similar Products - The cameras in police cars would come to mind. I do not think there are other medical products that would have similar requirements. Most other medical cameras are internal.
5. Other design issues - durability, Radio Frequency and Electromagnetic interference, vibration resistence.
