Question
I take care of my brother who is disabled and I claim him on my taxes as a dependant.  Right now, he only has Medicare Part A,B %26D coverage.  My employer offers a group health coverage and I am already paying the family rate for my wife and daughter.

My brother is diabetic, paraplegic and right leg amputee.  Would there be any reason that I would not want to add him to my medical coverage so that he could have Medical, Dental and Vision coverage and if I do add him, what do I need to do with his part B premium?

Thanks  Dave

Answer
Hi Dave.

Your way may work out, but there may be a better way.  I am referring you to our program(SHIP} in your State.  The number is on the back cover of MEDICARE AND YOU 2010 that he should receive in a few days.  Or, go to Medicare.gov===click on FIND THE SHIP PROGRAM IN YOUR STATE=======enter the information and get the phone number.  Call them and you will get the nearest office to you.  Request an appointment with one of the Medicare trained counselors, and they will get with you and outline the possible options.  Will take about an hour.  They will include a Benefits Checkup which will screen about 400 programs to see what he might qualify for. He may have coverage on the part B premium.

Hope this helps.

John
