Question My father is going on day 64 in the hospital after a post-operative perforated bowel which led to septic shock. The hospital is advising us that its time to move Dad to a long-term acute care facility. I want to move him from PA closer to me in MD. i was advised that I might meet some resistance through Medicare. My father has supplemental insurance. My question is how long can I expect the process to take and can I expect insurance to approve a move across state lines?
Answer Hi Lisa
Too complicated to be done by e-mail. So, I am referring you to my counterpart in PA. Call 1-800-783-7067 and you will get the nearest SHIP program to your location. These are Medicare trained counselors. Make an appointment with them and they will review your situation and give you your options. SHIP number for MD is 1-800-243-3425.
They will need to know exactly what his supplemental plan is.
