Question My mom turns 65 this year and still wants to work. She has Health Insurance at her job. She is worried that she will have to lose that insurance now that she qualifies for Medicare and Social Security. So she wants to know if she can have the work insurance And be collecting Social Security and Medicare all at the same time?
Answer Hi Christine
She sure can
Go to the SSA office a couple of months before her birthday and apply for Medicare.
tell them you do not need Part B as she has employer coverage.
The employer plan will be primary to Medicare.
Get a Certificate of Creditable coverage from the employer to attest their coverage is as good as or better that the Medicare provisions.
Get a copy of Medicare and You from the SSA office.
