Question I have Health net Family Options through my medicaid. For about 11 years I have struggled with my weight. Right now my BMI is 41.5, I was diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome & Depression. I have constant back and foot pain as well. I have tried almost every weight loss program, gym memberships & weight loss medications, with no signifigant results. My doctor has suggested weight loss surgery & I am wondering if my healthcare will cover the procedure, or help with the cost of the procedure. Thanks.
Answer Hi Katrina. Thanks for the question. My profile for allexperts.com states that I am only familiar with Texas. I can barely tell you anything about NJ Medicaid.
Go to www.healthnet.com. At the top "click on I'm a member" and choose "New Jersey". Set up your account online to view your benefit information to see if they will cover weight loss surgery.
I tried to see if I could view any information without having to sign up for the website but it seems as if everything is secure and you have to sign up.
Also, usually when a physician recommends something like wieght surgery they already know if your plan will cover the procedure or not. If the doctor that recommended the service is your primary care physician (or PCP) and he is suggesting that you have this service then he probably can refer you to a doctor that will do this procedure.
I promise you as soon as you find a doctor that does weight loss surgery they can tell you if your plan will cover it or not. Worry none the less!
