Expert: LASHUNDA - 7/1/2009

Question
How long must a specialty office keep patient reocords?
Dermatology and plastic surgery office. This is in South Carolina, what are the federal regulations?

Answer
Hi Lucy.  Thanks for the question.  I have no idea what the federal regulations are or even if there are what they would be.  I do know that each Managed Care Organization has a standard, Medicare and Medicaid, has a standard.  You may want to contact your Medical Society to see what they suggest are the medical record guidelines.  I'm just not sure.

thanks,
La Shunda
