Has your medical insurance company denied your claim and refuses to pay? Have you received a pre-authorization and still your insurance company refuses to pay? How can you get your insurance company to reverse a denied claim? How do you get a provider to waive your copayment if you are financially unable to pay? Can a provider sue you for a unpaid bill and will they? Can a provider send me to a collection agency for a medical bill? If my insurance company does not pay, am I responsible? If you have these questions or others on why your insurance company is not paying your bills, I can help. I can give you "tricks of the trade" to get your insurance company to pay. I have limited knowledge on Medicare and Medicaid and that is not my expertise. Each state is very different regarding Medicare and Medicaid so you need to review their website when you have questions. So please no Medicare or Medicaid questions!!

Experience
In the medical field for over 20 years spending majority of time in the collections aspect.

Medicare, Medicaid, Insurance, HMO problems - Pre Existing Arthritis and Jaw Problem. Insurance Coverage?

Question
Ive had an arthritis problem since age 12, I am 21 now. It is a type of psoriatic arthritis called spondylitis. My neck has been mainly affected; allowing very little motion. However, my newest doctor noticed that my jaw has also been affected. Since it happened at such a young age, my lower jaw stopped growing.

As a result, I am only able to open my mouth about an inch. This comes with pain and discomfort. I have trouble swallowing and biting a lot of my foods. Chewing for longer periods also causes pain.

I have heard of the surgery to correct this called orthognathic surgery. And I have also heard about how hard it is to get this covered by an insurance carrier if it isn't medically necessary. But doctors tell me mine is absolutely necessary. I am currently in between insurance carriers and am aware that my problem is pre existant. So I'm wondering which carrier, if any, may be more likely to cover this problem?

This is something I've lived with for years and am in dire need of some help.

Answer
Hi Ethan!

It is impossible for me to tell you which insurance company would cover this type of surgery since there are many policies and plans under each carrier.  Some do not have preexisting clauses and other do, most if you have continuous insurance coverage then they do not have any clauses.

Best bet is to call them and ask then directly.

Good Luck!
