Question We were about to put my mom on the Humana Medicare Advantage plan. We heard from her home health care nurse that we would be having a lot of problems with Humana if we went on that program...that Humana does not allow much home health care & they would end up making her go into the doctor's office every day to deal with teh wound care she has now. When we went to Wound care in the past they charged outrageous amounts & dragged out the service for months...home care lasted only weeks for the same issue when it happened the second time. We are considering putting off an Advantage plan at least until her current issue is resolved (healed) & rethinking the Advantage plan entirely. She has to see a doctor every 4 to 6 weeks to get her blood checked for her Coumadin levels, I was told by the nurse that Humana won't cover that without a huge co-pay...currently Medicare only charges $10 or so for those visits. She also has to see a cardiologist regularly for her pacemaker. Please if you have any advice I would appreciate it.
Answer Call Humana and ask them the same questions that you are asking me. Be sure you get the answers you want even if you have to ask the question 5 or 6 times. This is not something you want to enter into lightly. Changing medical plans can end up costing you more in the long run.
Don't sign up for anything until you are satisfied that you are doing the best thing for your mother. Also take the name of the person you speak to and the time of the call.
