Question
What s the name of the piece of clothing worn over armor that is rectangular in shape and has the colors or crest of the royalty ? It's akin to a large bib but rectangular in shape and not form fitting (straps but no shoulders)

Hello Kevin, Sorry I couldn't get to your question earlier, but I had late classes tonight.
I believe the answer to your question is SURCOAT.  They differed a bit in style from court to court, but were indeed worn over armour. Find images here:
