You are correct! Midpoint through Season 3, Billy takes a liking to Alison's college roommate, Susan Madsen, played by Cheryl Pollak.
Susan moves in with Alison when a chef job in Santa Barbara falls through. Then she and Billy get close (and ultimately move in together), which sends Alison off the wagon again.
