My friend and i are convinced that Melrose Place was a spin off from another show.  What was it?

Melrose Place is a spin-off of Beverly Hills 90210.  Melrose's Jake appeared on two episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 to introduce him and whet fans' appetites for Melrose Place.  He and Kelly (from 90210) had a tumultuous relationship that lasted through the first three episodes of Melrose Place.  The characters of Steve, David, and Donna from 90210 also appeared on the first couple episodes of MP.  Both shows were created by Darren Star.
