Mercedes/blower motor for 1989 Mercedez 300E

Question
Good Afternoon Robert, I purchased a used blower motor for my sons 1989 Mercedes 300 E  the part number I was told we needed was 124 (I think) in any case we got the old part out and it looks to be the same only a bit shorter in length so we need to adjust the squirrel cage a bit to fit into the metal slots provided under the hood.  Is this possible??  If so how do we do it?? or do I merely have the wrong part.  My son and I can't afford to go to a regular mechanic to fix it as they want way to much money so we are trying to do it ourselves...  Please advise any way you can.

thanks so much
Kelly

Answer
Kelly,
The vehicle chassis is probably a 124. However, on that chassis there are several different body configurations depending on Model year.
You would be far ahead of the game I the salvage yard or used parts house will allow you to exchange the unit you have for one identical to the one on your car.
If you are thinking of doing anything other than moving the cage along its shaft, I would not do that. The cage is balanced on the end of the motor shaft and any change could cause it to wobble and cause excess noise, vibration, and early motor bearing failure.
Good Luck. Let me know if you have other questions.
