Question
It will turn over but not catch, I noticed it would be really hard to start whenever the tank got close to half full. Assuming a twenty gallon tank, the fuel gauge has never worked so I figure using the mileage. With a full tank it ran perfect until I let it slip to close to ten gallons. I have tried bleeding the fuel line. thanks.

Answer
How many miles on the car?
Are any fuel lines damp? = a leak.
Are the fuel injector return hoses hard = brittle?
A crack large enough to weep will allow air into the fuel system.

How old are the fuel filters?
Is the plastic filter clear and clean?
Have you used a Biocide like Biobor in your fuel tank?
Read the following thread for why Biocide is needed.

If you are getting fuel:

#1. Check glow plugs = http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/showthread.php3?t=104547&page=1&pp=15

#2. Valve adjustment is mandatory every 15000 miles, and will impact starting ability in a huge way.

#3. When all else fails take it to a diesel shop for a cylinder compression and cylinder leak down test.
