I am trying to find out if they have any value but first I want to know whether this company is still alive, or if it was merged or what happened to it; then what should I do to turn them in cash (if possible).

Answer The quick answer is ....No I am sorry I can't.
I would say you need to look on the stock to see who issued it and start your research there. You really need a stock broker for this and someone hopefully affiliated with the original issuer.
I assumed you have "Googled" all the relavent people and names?
I deal with privately held comapnies where the stocks are owned by ..at most a handfull of family memebers. I have no resources for locating something of this nature.
That does not mean it can't be done.
