Question Hello. My mom & I came across a document while going through my grandpas house.(he passed away and my mom is the executer of the estate) It is for 100 shares of American Northland Oil Company (originally in San Francisco & Los Angeles, CA) These are on the top of the form. It was purchased in Oct. 1952 on the 24th. I am not sure what to do with this document, or if this company is even in business still. What should we do first. (We do not want to have to join a trading firm to get information either.) Any help would greatly be appreciated
Answer I am not sure what you mean by "We do not want to have to join a trading firm to get information either." If the shares have value because the company has merged into another company, you will need to sell these through a broker. Simply open an account at a local brokerage firm and they can research the company for you. For free.
You can probably do the same thing yourself but you don't have access to the same data that a brokerage house does.
