Mergers & Acquisitions - American Northland Oil Company

Expert: Dr. Joseph de Beauchamp - 4/10/2007

Question
I inherited some shares in the aforementioned company, and am wondering if they are of any value.  Can you please tell me if this company is now bankrupt, or if the company has merged with another company.

Thank you.

Answer
You should take these shares into a local broker dealer. This will have to be researched with the number of years, splits, and merger complications. The broker dealer does this for free, if you open up an account with them. They have insurance called SPIC, and you should have the shares held at a broker dealer for this reason, even if you decide to retain the shares. They will lift the CUSIP ID number from the certificates and trace this back with the transfer agent.
