Metallica! What can I say? I have followed these boys from the underground .. to being the Gods of Heavy Metal! Lol.., I know thier influences, as they have been my own.. I know them, and thier music. Not that I know everything... but you would be suprised at what you learn after awhile.. Groupie ... No! Devoted fan... ;)

Experience
Experience goes back to the day when I first heard Metal Militia on the "NLTL" demo... lol. I still have that tape! That was the first song I ever heard from them... then saw them at the Whiskey ... Raw,unpolished (at least compared to what they would become!), Several concerts... Fandom... lol, Still at 40- something... Amazing... And knowing we/ they are human.... for 4 men of Rock and Roll, a hard thing to admit! To meet... accept and stare down! Not deny... but push the limits. The trick is to never grow too old..
In the heart! :) They are the heart of Metal, then and now.... Looked up to by many... equaled by few...

Question
What is it like to live on the road and be on tour?

How many days a week/month do you usually work?

What is it like to be famous?

Have you ever been attacked by your fans?

Did any members graduate from high school and/or college?

How does your family feel about you in a band?

Do you give back to your community? If yes. In what ways?

Please answer these questions, my report is due tomorrow or just give a website that has this information, please help me.

Answer

  Hello CJ ... :)

First thing that needs to be gotten out of the way is that I am in no way affiliated with the band.
Therefore I cannot be sure how much help I can be with this report you need to get done. But we can try and see what happens.

1: Having never experienced touring.. I can imagine the amount of work and dedication it takes to be out there day in and out. Lets not forget there was a time when these guys literally lived on the road!   But from what I have heard and read being on the road going from one place to the next can be exhausting, living in hotel rooms, eating food thats less than wonderful, lets not forget your working! So as much fun it seems at first that "fun" thing has to wear off.
2: Having followed these guys for quite a while.. their careers are a job to them just like yours or mine. When they were recording a new album they used to work non-stop. However as they got older and wiser.. when they were going thru the changes like Jaymz's rehab and such, common sense took over and they started working normal hours .. 5 days a week mostly. With the exception of holidays. ;)
3: I really don't know personally what its like.. but would have to liken it to living in a fish bowl. Everyone wants a piece of you.. wants to know you, what your doing and so forth. I have mass respect for these guys for living in that fish bowl and still finding a way to have as normal a life for their families as possible.
4:I cant ever remember hearing of a fan attacking a band member, however they do tend to get overzealous at the concerts at times.. Jaymz has said hes gotten a few scars from womens nails as they try to grab for him as he works the rail...
5: All bandmembers have graduated from High School. As for college... I seem to remember Kirk having taken some College courses, as well as Jaymz and Lars.
6: I can't speak for their family members, but each had to know walking into their relationships that the band was very important to these boys.. and wasnt going to go away. therefore Metallica wasn't going away, and was going to be a part of their lives alongside their families. Their parents on the other hand have expressed pride in their accomplishments.
7:These guys are always giving back to the community .. doing benefits, donating time and property to charitable causes, supporting things like the Make a Wish Foundation.. The Bridge School benefit is something they play at every year just to name a couple.

I hope this was of some help.. I don't know that its all that you were looking for or expecting.. But under the circumstances is about all I can offer.

Thank you for your time and question...
