Question
Since you're closer to the sun, why is it colder on a mountaintop than it is on the ground?

Hi Tyron

As you rise in elevation the air is colder most of the way to the edge of space. The reason it cools with elevation is that it is further away from the ground of the  Earth that is heated by the sun which gives off that heat to the lower atmosphere.
